IMG_2249.JPG - This is the Donner Hill Marker. It commemorates an unnecessary and tragic decision by the Donner Party in 1846. The Donner party was descending the canyon towards the valley. But, when they reached this point they found it was too narrow for their wagons and so they double-teamed the wagons up the steep hill southwest of the marker. This exhausted their draft animals and contributed to their later troubles across the Great Salt Lake Desert and in the Sierra Nevada - costing the lives of forty-four of their party of eighty-nine.
